Common Myths Associated with a Loose Vagina

1. Too much sex causes a loose vagina.

Many people falsely believe that too much sex can loosen the vagina. The vaginal muscles are very elastic and can retain its normal shape and size after sex. It is much like a rubber band and can go back to its original size after sex.

2. Too many sexual partners result in a loose vagina.

A loose vagina is not associated with having multiple sexual partners and is completely a myth. As stated above, your vagina is very elastic. It relaxes only when you are aroused and then returns to its normal size and shape after sex.

Actual Causes of a Loose Vagina

1. Childbirth

Childbirth can cause a loose vagina. When a woman delivers a baby, the muscles around the vagina go through a lot of trauma, resulting weakened vaginal walls. Hence, it gets loose.

2. Aging and Loss of Estrogen

Due to aging and certain health conditions, a drop in estrogen levels makes the vaginal tissue thinner, dryer, and less stretchy, which can result in vaginal laxity.

Non-Surgical Treatments to Strengthen Pelvic Floor Muscles

Pelvic floor therapy often helps to strengthen pelvic floor muscles. To strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, Kegel exercises can help improve the elasticity of the vaginal walls. A pelvic floor specialist can help with exercises, but there are also exercises you can try on your own.

Kegel Exercises

Kegel exercises are recommended to improve muscle tightness. The best way to do Kegels is when you are urinating. While urinating, clinch your pelvic floor muscles to try and stop the flow of urine. Hold and squeeze each time for about 4-5 seconds. After you learn which muscles to tighten, you can do this exercise anytime throughout the day. It is recommended to do Kegels up to 10 times per day to improve tightness.
